Innovation School Lands Walton Foundation Grant

Subscribe NowThe Arkansas-based Walton Family Foundation has awarded a $325,000 grant to the Edison School of the Arts in Indianapolis. The school says it will use the funds to develop coaching and training for school educators and administrators.
The Edison School of the Arts is an Innovation School with the Indianapolis Public Schools district. The school says its vision is "to provide an environment that promotes high academic and creative achievement through implementation of visual and performing arts course programming."
The school says it will also use the funding for ongoing professional training and educational development in conjunction with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Chief Executive Officer and Head of School Nathan Tuttle says “Edison School of the Arts is humbled and grateful for the Walton Foundation investment that will have meaningful and direct positive impact on sustained positive student outcomes."
The Walton Family Foundation, which is governed by the family that founded Walmart, says its grants are awarded to schools that meet several criteria, including:
- The School or project addresses a significant barrier to student access and /or access to high-quality schools
- The Innovation school applies the Foundations theory of change. In that the school programs enhance student access to a high-quality education and educational opportunities.
- Breakthrough potential. The proposed intervention, if implemented effectively, has the potential to produce significant results for students
- The idea is transferable: Projects should be replicable in different circumstances and locals
- Its success can be tested objectively: The projects results will be distinct and measurable
